We interviewed author Shanaya Taneja about her debut book entitled The Naughty Proposal!, which is the first instalment in the Dark Temptation series. Read on to find out what Shanaya had to say.
Welcome to e-Books India, Shanaya! Many thanks for joining us for this interview. Can you please tell us about you, your background and how you came about to become an author?
I have been a part of the corporate world for the last five years. I now feel that it is time that we as a society stop considering the sensuality of a lady as something that is shameful, or that should be kept a secret.
Through attending business meetings in Delhi and Mumbai I have been acutely observing the societal restraints. In the end what happens is people break all boundaries to explore their physical and emotional desires. If you see the latest video of Deepika Padukone on women empowerment, you would realise it is in the same sweet spot.
You’ve published your first story recently entitled The Naughty Proposal!, which is the first book in your Dark Temptation series. Can you please tell us a bit about this story and what inspired you to write it?
In the first book of the Dark temptation series – The Naughty Proposal!, sex is an intrinsic part and flows through the story, characters and their relationships. Many erotic novels have romance as the main focus of the plot line and the characters usually end up in a “happily ever after” type of situation. The Naughty Proposal! is an erotic novel which is not just about romance but also about how a girl breaks the shackles of the society to explore her dark temptations. It is characterized by strong, explicit, sexual content.
In this book I have tried to use words in a manner, which maintains the intense, yet subtle description of passion and love making in a gentle way.
The story revolves around 4 characters. The protagonist of the story Tara works in an advertising agency. She is not interested in getting involved with a nice guy. She is not inclined towards serious relationships! She just wants to enjoy life by her rules.
Her good friend Sneha is always going around with any guy as long as he is hot and charming. Her latest catch is Abhimanyu.
Dheeraj is the rich spoiled brat who agrees to Tara’s naughty proposal to fulfil his dark temptations. This then leads the 4 characters on a bumpy ride, hopping from one bed to another!
It’s an erotica with a twist, like tequila with a lemon twist.
What other things inspire your writing?
The Naughty Proposal! is filled with desires and seduction. As a strong headed independent girl, I feel that people who are involved in the corporate lifestyle of the metros find themselves involved in sexual relationships for different reasons. In the end, the shackles of the society spare none. I pick up the characters from daily life and express their hidden dark temptations in words with which you can feel the pleasure and sensual delight in your heart and mind.
Are you working on any more books in the Dark Temptation series? If so, can you please give us any more details about your work, and when we might expect to see your next book?
Yes, I have received great response in just two months of the book release (touchwood). This has motivated me to write the next book in the series. You should see it by Dec 2015. It will be more sensuous than any erotic movie that you have ever seen.
Can you please share 3 top tips with budding authors who want to pen a story in the erotica genre?
1. The reader should be able to relate to your content. It’s a hidden feeling, desire which the writer needs to evoke. Hence the writer should carefully observe people and understand their inner feelings and desires which they usually don’t speak out in the public.
2. Words are wonderful stimulants. The writer should maintain intense yet subtle descriptions of passion, love-making and feelings and not go overboard and write porn.
3. The setting needs to be Indian. A reader should feel that this can happen in his life. It should be fictional yet believable.
